Matt Murray, LSW

Licensed Social Worker

Matt Murray is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and joined the clinical team at Konick and Associates in 2021. Matt is committed to fostering a welcoming, compassionate, empathetic, and collaborative therapeutic environment. He has gained experience as a school social worker in recent years and has advocated for students and families as they navigate various challenges. He brings his background working in schools and the special education system into his clinical work with individuals by acknowledging the impact of culture and society through a trauma-informed approach. He works with a wide range of client populations, including adolescents, adults, and children with concentrations in the following:

Matt approaches therapy through a psychodynamic lens (primarily attachment-based and relationally-focused) while integrating other evidence-based interventions such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB). These styles focus on the client’s past, present, future, and who they are in relation to themselves and others. This includes helping clients cultivate self-awareness and change through a shared understanding and developing coping skills tailored to each unique individual. He also utilizes creative means like art and music as part of the therapeutic process.

Matt earned his master’s degree from Aurora University in Social Work and is currently a high school social worker. Before entering the field, he obtained a bachelor’s in philosophy from Elmhurst University. Matt continues to incorporate philosophical thinking into his therapy and recognizes how it guides us towards a deeper understanding of ourselves and our everyday experiences.
